Music Business Success Stories

NSS Success

We were delighted to receive an overall course satisfaction rating of 100% for our Music Management degree in the 2021 National Student Survey.

Graduate Success

Congratulations to Rachel Lloyd (graduated 2016), who takes on the role of Country Music Promoter at AEG (owners of The O2 and other major international venues). Rachel started her career at The O2, followed by a recent stint at Warner Music Group. She says: “I volunteered at Country to Country Festival while at Solent, so to now be booking it feels quite surreal. I’m excited to return to AEG, to live music, and to help bring more country music to the UK!”

We would also like to congratulate Dominika Uhrakova (graduated 2018), who takes on a secondment as Publisher Relationship Manager at PRS for Music after starting at the company last year. As part of the new role, Dominika will become a key contact for Sony Music Publishing.

Students and Staff at Re:Claim Festival

A group of music business students and staff recently undertook a consultancy project evaluating Southampton’s brand-new city centre Re:Claim Festival. As part of the work, students interviewed over 100 people to gauge the public’s response to the event while also analysing areas for potential growth.

The festival is planned to be a regular event in the city’s calendar included DJs, graffiti, skateboarding, street dance, BMXing and live music stages throughout the city, including a BBC Introducing stage hosting local young talent.

The work was commissioned by GO! Southampton – the business improvement district (BID) for Southampton – and the students’ research will be presented to BID in early December.

Project lead Professor Martin James said: “Learning to work with business and cultural organisations is essential for people working in the music business. Our students did an amazing job and I’d expect their input to impact on developments within the festival next year.”
