Tribute to Bowie

Spirit of Bowie is a celebration of the music of the quintessential pop music star David Bowie, who sadly passed away in January 2016.

Southampton Solent University students have organised a free musical celebration of David Bowie’s songs, taking place on Wednesday 18 May.

‘Spirit of Bowie’ will feature performances by students on the Popular Music Performance, Popular Music Production, and Popular Music Performance and Production degree courses, as well as staff and The Chicken Soup Choir.

“The students have been working really hard perfecting the songs to make sure it’s a fitting tribute to Bowie,” says Esther Frake, Senior Lecturer in Popular Music at Solent.

“People can expect a full night celebrating the best of Bowie songs – it’s going to be rocking!”

Paul Rutter, Programme Group Leader for Music, adds: “Bowie helped to shape today’s music through his invention, exploration, fashion and his art. He has left audiences with a vast treasure trove of music to discover, and so it is fitting that our final-year students dedicate their end of year show to Bowie.”

The event is free, and voluntary donations received on the evening will go to Macmillan Support. It will take place from 7-10pm on Wednesday 18 May in JM315, Southampton Solent University. All welcome to attend, please register here.
