Skindred @ Southampton Solent

Last week, Skindred’s Arya and Mikeydemus popped into Southampton Solent University to do an impromptu Q&A session, where they were interviewed by Jack King of Popular Music Journalism and Alex Hehir of Music Promotion in front of a packed room of music journalism, music promotion and Music Management students.

Skindred talked about their pioneering blend of musical influences (from heavy metal to reggae and beyond), and about playing to audiences of over 750,000 people at the Polish Woodstock Festival. They also talked about the recording process of their new album ‘Volume’ (which debuted at No.2 in the UK Rock Chart later that week), and about how important the small venue sector is to the development of new British acts.

Our students gained great insights into being a band in an intensely competitive live market, and about the difficulty faced by artists and bands in securing funding when investment in recorded music is now so hard to secure.

After taking questions from a full lecture hall, Arya and Mikey headed back to the Southampton Guildhall to sound check for that evening’s gig (see review here).
