World-renowned drummer Craig Blundell recently visited Southampton Solent University to give a Drum Clinic. Here’s a video of one of his performance medleys taken from the night and produced by a mix of television production and popular music production students.
Students learnt about his steady rise to success, discussing topics including his humble beginnings in the HM Royal Marines Band Service, his first professional equipment sponsorship and his experience of championing UK drumming talent around the world.
Craig also demonstrated his percussion prowess while he was on campus, giving television production and popular music production students the chance to record with a world-class musician. The result of their hard-work can be seen in the video above.
The visit was part of a joint initiative between Mark Jones and Solent’s music academics, who strive to bring a range of top industry talent to the University.
Speaking at a similar event last year, Paul Rutter, programme lead for the University’s music courses, highlighted the importance of the clinics:
“These events are proving increasingly popular with both students and local musicians. As well as enhancing the learning experience of students at the University, we are giving local college students and musicians the opportunity to benefit from the talent, knowledge and advice on offer from some of the world’s top drummers.”
