The Importance of Independent Venue Week

Grass root venues feed the music industry with the new and exciting acts in the UK. Without these venues that showcase new talent the music industry will slowly become a stale industry,  with no movement or progression. That is why Independent Venue Week (IVW) is an incredibly important for the UK Music industry. They should be celebrated and protected.

Independent Venue Week is a 7-day celebration of small music venues around the UK and a nod to the people that own, run and work in them, week in, week out. Supported using public funding by Arts Council England, Independent Venue Week brings together these venues along with breaking and established artists, promoters, labels, media, bloggers and taste-makers to create a nationwide series of gigs at the end of January.

“These venues are the backbone of the live music scene in this country and Independent Venue Week wants to recognize all that they have done to create some of the most memorable nights of the past so they can continue to do the same in the future.” (Independent Venue Week motto)

Southampton is host to lots of independent music venues, like The Alex, The Brook, The Joiners & Talking Heads. All of these venues are hosting events during Independent Venue Week. Check out their pages for the events that they are hosting; with a wide range of music and different genres.
